Infinity edge pools are extremely popular with beautiful resorts around the globe and recently we've seen them gaining popularity with residential fibreglass pools. The appeal of an infinity edge pool is that the water appears to flow into the landscape and surrounds which has a huge visual impact.

Firstly, they are known by a few different names such as a wet edge, zero edge, negative edge or disappearing edge, but that are referring to the same end product. See below for a few ideas and for some information, as they aren't as simple as they might seem.

Pro Tip:

Wet edge pools can add something really special to your home and make an elevated, small yard appear like it goes on forever. Be careful though - it’ll feel like you’re on holidays and visitors may never want to leave!

Swimming Pool Kits Direct

Here at Swimming Pool Kits Direct, we have a great range of pools that can be modified to include an infinity edge. These pools can be found here and include both the inground and above ground options.

What is an infinity edge pool?

As already mentioned, these pools can be labelled under a few different names - infinity edge, wet edge, zero edge, negative edge and disappearing edge (to name a few!).

Basically it is where an illusion is created on an edge (or corner) of a pool so that it seems like the water overflows seamlessly over the edge. In reality, a basin or trough is installed below to collect and recirculate the water back into the pool.

Another type of infinity edge is a spa which either flows directly between the two (no edge), or is raised, sitting next to the pool, allowing water to flow between both spaces.

Can any pool have an infinity edge installed?

Swimming Pool Kits Direct have a large range of plunge pools and fibreglass swimming pools (up to 7m) which can have an infinity edge installed. Unfortunately not all of our pools have this custom option. Give us a call today to discuss your requirements and our knowledgeable team will be able to suggest a few fibreglass pool shell models.

What are the equipment and installation requirements and options?

Wet edge or infinity edge pools can be inground or above ground and be on any edge or corner of the fibreglass pool shell. You can even get creative and have the spill edge split across a surface or as a waterfall. The options really are up to your imagination. Just remember that the area is not smooth like the internal fibreglass shell, and that it does require tiling. Please chat to your installer and ensure that appropriate tile glue is used.

There are three main setup options:

Please note that with every option, we recommend using an auto leveller which is imperative for the system to be pumped dry, causing damage to the system.

1. Separate pump and returns

The water is collected in a trough or tank and then pumped back into the pool directly. In this scenario, the water is not sanitised before being put back into the pool using additional returns, however it is a significant amount which is then combined with the pool water.

2. Using your pool's filtration system

Using a variable speed pump and an automated chlorinator, the water is collected in the tank and then put through the pool's filtration system using the pool's returns.

3. Spa flowing into pool

This uses our platinum pool and spa package which includes the Halo automated chlorinator. This is the only options that does not require an additional tank as the pool acts as the tank, collecting the water and pumping it back into the spa.

What is the process?

Firstly, put in a quotation request through our website, or give us a call on 1800 497 421. Either way, we will be in touch to chat further about your requirements. Let us know you're after a wet edge pool so we can discuss which pools are suitable and which setup would work best.

We will then put together a quotation based on our discussion and email it through. Once you've paid your deposit of $2000, we will organise a delivery date with you. Roughly one month prior to delivery, our manufacturer will give you a call to confirm the location of your wet edge so that it can be made to order as well as discuss your set up.

Your pool and equipment will then be delivered as usual.

Budget?

It all looks and sounds incredible but when installed and finished correctly, they also add an average of $10k to your pool quotation. This is not a small amount however, the pool will look beautiful and be a talking point for years to come.

If you're thinking about adding an infinity edge to your new DIY fibreglass pool, give us a call and have a chat with one of our Customer Success Managers.
