There are so many ways that you can really elevate your pool area, but here, we've narrowed it down into 5 handy tips:
Pool Shape and Colour
During the planning stage, the shape and colour of your pool will come into question and it’s an important choice. Not only will it be one that will last for a lengthy period of time, but it’s one that can change the look of your yard.
When considering which pool shape would be best for you, take into account the shape of your yard and how you are wanting to use your beautiful fibreglass pool. Rectangular shaped pools can be used for those wanting to swim laps as well as those who want to relax and lounge around whereas rounded pools are best for recreational swimmers. We have a number of shapes and styles available which you can view here.
The colour of a pool can really change the appearance and it can be one of the biggest considerations you’ll make on this journey. Ultimately you’ll want your new pool to fit in with the rest of your landscape. Darker pool finishes can look more like a natural lake and may fit in better with more spacious surroundings. For a modern pool, here at Swimming Pool Kits Direct we recommend lighter colours such as Blush Blue, White Spice or Quartz. The added bonus is that younger swimmers can be easily seen. Finishes
These days there are so many options when it comes to the area that surrounds your inground or above ground fibreglass swimming pool. Two of the most common coping finishes are tiles or decking. Let’s look more closely at these:
Tiles
Consider the tones, textures and materials around your pool and backyard when making a selection. Travertine coping tiles are strong, generally non-slip, weather resistant and also cooler underfoot making them a great choice. Meanwhile porcelain tiles are highly durable and less porous so if foliage is being dropped or you’re planning a lot of kids pool parties, then they’re a good, easy-clean option.
If mixing tiles with decking, opt for a warmer, neutral-coloured tile which will complement the browns in the timber.
Decking
Natural decking can look beautiful although you need to be prepared to maintain it by sanding and sealing regularly. If you love the look of natural decking but are worried about the upkeep, have a look at composite decking. This is usually made from a mix of recycled plastic and wood which means it retains the stunning appearance of wood whilst being waterproof. The product also comes in a range of colours.

Integrated Products
Integrated features create a seamless finish to your extended pool area. Options include pool covers, skimmer box lid and drains.
Skimmer lids probably aren’t usually at the top of your list when thinking about installing your own swimming or plunge pool but trust us, it can make such a big difference. Most standard kits include a plastic skimmer lid however when hidden using our Hide products, it creates uninterrupted, sophisticated finish. The flush-fitting pool skimmer lid is easy to install and blends into the pool surroundings which really elevates the finishes. Best of all, they’re marine grade and come with a 10 year warranty. There are a number of sizes available, just let us know which size tile/ decking you’ve selected and we can go from there.
Using a hidden roller cover for your pool is an inexpensive way to keep your pool clean and increase the useable area around (hello, pool loungers!). Our Daisy pool covers can be cleverly concealed within your decking or tiles which lends to a more modern finish and keeps the clutter away.
Maintenance
It really is as simple as it sounds - a pool with good filtration products can be the key to owning a stunning, crystal clear pool. Here at Swimming Pool Kits Direct, we use superior Astral products and we will work with you to determine which system will best suit your usage and property. Our signature package includes a mineral system which is soft on the skin and eyes although we have a range of pool equipment packages that can be customised to suit your requirements and budget.
Another way to uplift your pool area is to upgrade from the standard suction cleaner to one of our robotic cleaners. This takes most of the hard work out of your hands as it is able to efficiently remove debris from and scrub the walls, floors and stairs of your new pool.
Furnishing
When designing your pool area, don’t overlook having enough space for a few pool lounges! Furniture is an extension of your pool area and really invites some relaxation time (we all need a bit of R&R now and then!). When choosing what’s best for you, look for durable, weather resistant pieces and don’t forget to select colours that will compliment your space.
Conclusion
Remember, the options are endless when it comes to designing your pool surrounds but taking into consideration ongoing maintenance, visual appearance and of course how you want to use the area will help to narrow it down.
